Theres all these things that the field team does that are a very delicate process.

On DirectingBorat Subsequent Moviefilmin Character

Im playing a part.

Im blond, first of all.

I dont look like myself.

I have an actual look.

My name is Chris.

I bleached my hair for most of the past year.

Sachas done this for a long time.

And he was completely right, I will tell you that.

There are all these things that we do, that Sacha does before the cameras are filming.

Theres a lot of reality-setting.

Ill tell you one example: This is the first day of shooting.

When were in the hair salon and the hairdresser is like, Can I see your hair?

and Maria pulls her skirt up, its this very uncomfortable moment.

They walked in there, and shes flashing her.

So that was a very aggressive way to begin that shoot.

And I come out because Im just like hidden around the corner.

I go, Whats going on?

I was like, No, you didnt do anything wrong.

This is a cultural thing.

Its a language thing.

I think if I had gone over to the hair stylist and was like, Nothing wrong happened.

These arent characters, that would be like,Okay, well, now youre trying to convince me.

that kind of short-circuited her doubt because that wouldnt make any sense if this was a joke.

Sometimes we pushed it too far.

Obviously, its all about pushing everything to the extreme.

Hes like, Something is going on here.

And I say, What?

I was just blown away.

I think youre going to get an Oscar for this.

I cant think of anything else quite like it.

You have to be like,Well, someone could get physically violent with me.

It just kind of makes a joke of any other kind of acting being referred to as fearless.
