A confession: When it comes to true crime, Im prone to pearl-clutching.
And yet I am also a big, stinking hypocrite.
Like millions of others on this planet, I consume a substantial amount of true-crime media, often compulsively.
There are the lies I tell myself, of course.
for its vivid depiction of high school and satirical commentary on true crime.
I felt safe in its parody.
ButAmerican Vandalalso stuck with me for another reason.
This was not so whenAmerican Vandaldebuted in the latter days of 2017.
Let me just say:Only Murders in the Buildingis a marvelous show.
This is a fascinating vision of true crime.
Its also vaguely distressing.
Only Murders in the Buildingdoes seem to have one plausible line of criticism for its genre inspiration.
Now, I dont intend to use this opportunity to slink away from my uneasiness with true crime.
But I really lovedOnly Murders in the Building.
Is it turning me into a true-crime convert?
Then again, Id be dead.
