Midnight isThe Midnight Clubin a nutshell with all the strengths and weaknesses it ever had.
My initial reaction was disappointment, to be honest.

Stanton says that, after all this time, Julia cant accept that she was justlucky.
If Brightcliffe really is special in some supernatural way, it remains vague and undefined.
It feels as though nobody really decided how real the magic and horror inThe Midnight Clubshould be.
Are Ilonka and Kevins hallucinations really only superficially similar, a case of folie a deux?
This lack of clarity is frustrating, especially as it relates to the characters.
Spences mom showing up and hugging him feels right if predictable.
There are two final stories to mostly close out the episode.
First up is the conclusion to Kevins story about Dusty the serial killer.
We learn that his compulsion to kill has been passed down from generation to generation.
This must be a cathartic ending for Kevins friends whove been waiting for it for a while.
The kiss between the two was always going to happen, but its still a little forced.
The conclusion to Ilonkas story from Witch is immediately much more powerful.
What shecanchange is Scotties fate.
Ilonka similarly failed Anya.
What Imani can do for Scottie now is make a genuine sacrifice and face her own death head on.
But in retrospect, as a protagonist, she has a pretty complete, thematically satisfying arc.
But Julias mask-off moment made her realize,finally, just how wrong her priorities have been.
The Ilonka who brings up her preneed to her foster dad is a changed Ilonka, more at peace.
What happened to Julia, the closest human character this show has to a villain?
Is she on the run from the law or just back at the collective?
Theyre present in spirit and in stories, if not in flesh.
I still feel some real empathy for her, and Emilija Baranac played that scene just right.
