Howard Hesseman, one of TVs first hippie-archetype character actors, has died.

According to his manager, Hesseman died Saturday in Los Angeles due to complications from colon surgery.

Hesseman performed improv in San Francisco, while also moonlighting as a radio DJ.

The connection, needless to say, is terrified about that element …

But by no means am I advocating drug use.

I understand the fears.

I have a fair share of friends who are dead because of drugs, or close to it.

I just think the fears are overblown.

What great times we had.

Great laughs and fun going to see Etta James in Manhattan Beach and Joe Tex at The Parisian Room.

Staying at your beautiful house in Ramatuellle.

Oh god this hurts.

Impossible to overstate Howard Hessemans influence on his and subsequent generations of improvisors.

He was a friend for 50 years.
